It Started, Quite Simply, Like This...
Panshikars, the famous destination for Maharashtrian snacks and cuisine made a humble beginning in 1921. Its founder and chief patron Shripad Panshikar was working with the post and telegraph department, but somewhere he knew that this was not something that he wanted to do the rest of his life. Shripad’s father ran a sweet shop at Thakurdwar since 1921, young Shripad used to assist him during his college days in that shop and gained a good experience in the business of professional sweets and snacks creation.
When Shripad finally decided to expand this business, all suppliers were willing to give him goods on credit, even his friends and relatives were very helpful....
Hereafter the Girgaum Panshikars became a very famous name within a very short span of time. The famous critic Mr. Atmaram Sawant, said in one of his writings that; previously in Mumbai the name Panshikar reminded everyone of the performer Prabhakar Panshikar, but today Panshikar is known for the famous sweet makers at Thakurdwar Girgaum, this one line still floats around us all the time.
The Times Food Award of 2004 and 2005 are only a small testament to this culinary journey which has always maintained its quality and standard. All our cooks are experts and their dexterity has been unmatched so far.
From fasting items to all sorts of snacks Panshikar has become a favourite not only among Maharashtrians but also people from other communities. Celebrities like Lata Mangeshkar, Sonali Kulkarni, Padmini Kolhapure, Smita Talwalkar, Vikram Gokhale are just some of the Mumbaikars who just simply cannot resist a Panshikar treat.
We also take orders from corporates and have a tie up with Thackers catering in Mumbai for supplying sweets and different snacks from time to time for their events.
Down Memory Lane..
By Shri Shripad Panshikar
The origins of the name Panshikar can be traced to PANSHI, a small village at the Goa Maharashtra border. Young Bhalchandra Panshikar, father of Shripad Panshikar, left his life behind from this small village to the bustling city of Mumbai and worked at the Purohit’s gaining the knowledge and skills of mithai making. He opened his first shop at Thakurdwar during the Ganpati Festival of 1921. And yes, our brand has now completed over a 100 years in the industry. We are still flourishing today with the goodwill of all our well-wishers. We have 3 branches in Mumbai located at Girgaum, Vile Parle and newly opened Ghatkopar....
Our shop also caters snacks especially required during fasting for e.g sabudana vada, batata puri, peanut usal, farali pattice etc.. At Girgaum, we were the pioneers for preparing fasting misal which became very popular among our customers though we always catered the puneri misal.
Moving with the current times, we are available on online delivery platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato and have also tied up with DotPe for direct orders.Read more Order Now!
